Truckable Tugs
EBDG’s team of engineers have supported multiple shipyards in their efforts to modernize and electrify their truckable tug designs. Below are three unique industry partnerships in th e truckable tug industry.
26’ Electric Truckable Tug Diversified Marine
EBDG has partnered with Diversified Marine, Inc. to offer the maritime industry an electrified "truckable" tug. Featuring 800+ total horsepower, this battery powered alternative provides all of the benefits of a conventional truckable tug with zero tailpipe emissions. It is ideally suited to support marine construction operations and short-range logistics in environmentally sensitive areas and where required by regulations.
This innovative tugboat is engineered for versatility and efficiency, featuring an all-electric propulsion system that meets the growing demand for sustainable maritime operations. Designed for easy over-road transport by truck, the electric tug is an ideal choice for both public agencies and private enterprise to minimize their fleet emissions. Its robust electric powertrain provides the necessary thrust for a wide range of applications, including marine construction support, dredge tending, buoy tending, short-range cargo operations, crew transportation, and line handling. Combining EBDG's cutting-edge design expertise with Diversified Marine's proven construction capabilities, the electric truckable tug sets a new standard for electric propulsion in marine small utility vessels.
26’ Truckable Tug Silverback Marine
EBDG partnered with Silverback Marine to design a compact yet mighty tugboat that can be transported by truck over the road. The truckable tug has an overall length of 25' - 10 ⅞", a beam of 14' - 6" and a draft of 3' - 4". This vessel design offers a tug that can be easily transported to job sites with enough power and maneuverability to perform push-assists.
With 500 horsepower, the tug will produce a bollard pull over 12,500 pounds and has a still water range of 60 nautical miles pushing approximately 10,000 pounds at 4.1 knots. The design is available with either electric, hybrid, or outboard propulsion options and can be further customized to fit a specific operation.
This tug can be used in a fleet as an alternative to a traditional, larger vessel and offers flexibility unavailable in standard designs. This vessel can be operated with a one-person crew and does not require compliance with United States Coast Guard SubChapter M Regulations.
26’ Truckable Tug Miller Marine
EBDG and Miller Marine, Inc. teamed to design and construct a fully electric truckable tug. The versatile vessel is purposefully designed as a multi-functional utility boat servicing marine construction sites, tending dredges, tending buoys, short range ferry operations and other near shore operations such as crew transportation or line handling.
EBDG will incorporate an electrical propulsion system into Miller Marine's proven truckable tug design. Once the design phase is complete, Miller Marine will build the vessel at its 15,000 square foot production facility.
The vessel has an overall length of just under 26 feet and will be powered by two permanent magnet motors with a total power of 300+ kW (400+ HP). Shore power will be used to recharge the vessel's battery banks overnight, taking no more than eight hours. On a full charge, the vessel will operate with contingency for 12+ hours. A closed-loop fluid cooling system will provide temperature control of the batteries, motors and electronics, maximizing their lifetime. This configuration is ideally suited for shallow and silty water operations.
The electric tug is intended to support public agency and private enterprise marine construction operations and short-range logistics.
