Ship Handling Tugs
EBDG has a long history of designing, detailing, and supervising the construction of innovative and efficient tugboats. Our design portfolio includes more than 50 different tugboats, ranging from small harbor tugs to deep sea salvage tugs. In addition to new designs, we offer broad experience in repowering, tonnage reduction and modification projects.
80’ Assist Tug
EBDG was selected by Sause Bros. Ocean Towing Co., Inc. to complete a concept and contract design for a ship assist and coastal tug for their Hawaiian operation. EBDG worked closely with Sause and the result is the PONO, a twin-screw tug with an overall length of 80’, a beam of 29’and 2,350 BHP. The PONO operates successfully in the coastal waters of the Hawaiian Islands.
100’ Escort Tug
EBDG was selected by Hvide Marine, Inc. to complete a contract design of a tractor tug for tanker and cruise ship escort. The resulting vessel, the BROWARD has an overall length of 100’, a beam of 40’ and 2,550 BHP. The vessel was constructed by Atlantic Marine, Inc. and is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping. The BROWARD entered service in 1995 and has successfully operated since then out of Port Everglades, Florida.
120’ Escort and Assist Tug
EBDG was selected by Crowley to complete the contract design of the PROTECTOR and GUARD. The two 120’ Protector Class tugs feature twin Voith Schneider cycloidal propulsion units and two CAT 3606 engines that produce 5,500 Bhp. They’re capable of speeds of up to 14 knots and have a direct bollard pull of over 120,000 pounds. Employed for both ship assist and escort work, their innovative stern holddown arrangement lets the operator quickly switch from escort to docking mode. They’re also equipped for firefighting.
