RSW Trawler
EBDG designed this concept refrigerated seawater trawler for inshore service. The concept design offers the client the choice of length, ranging from 160-180 feet and a beam ranging from 40-45 feet. Vessel particulars will determine final design and layout of the holds as well as fish capacity.
Design Features
Improved Catch Quality – This vessel uses a fish pump to handle the fish more gently than hauling onboard in a tightly packed cod end. The fish holds are only seven feet wide to reduce sloshing when the vessel is rolling in a seaway. A state of the art CO2 refrigeration system keeps the catch at 310F. Offload system with on board fish pumping system again reduces catch damage.
Fuel Efficiency – A modern medium-speed diesel with a shaft generator means only one engine running when underway, evening out main engine loads and improving fuel economy. Two diesel generators provide full back up power and also take home propulsion capability. The harbor generator set is sized to match in-port demand.
Habitability – Single cabins with private facilities for all crew members and the observer. A mud room separates working from living environments. Excellent sound attenuation ensures quiet accommodations, which are also in the optimal location to minimize motions.
Reduced Crew Costs – This vessel has a catch capacity of 1.6 million pounds but only a six man crew.
Safety – A fully redundant propulsion system will get the vessel to port at five knots in the event of main propulsion failure. Fully enhanced maneuvering comes with both bow and stern thrusters. The deck areas are designed to improve crew safety in conjunction with the anti-roll tank.
Redundancy and Maintenance – The vessel has fully redundant electrical generation and back-up capacity on the RSW system. Well laid out machinery rooms with sufficient space to complete maintenance and repairs result in less impact on fishing time.
